Just as animals have to eat to survive, human beings must eat too, but they should not content themselves with eating like an animal, in other words without consciousness. Food is not a dead substance, it speaks to us, it passes on its secrets to us, and if we want to receive these secrets we must eat in silence and concentrate on the food we are eating. Food is sunlight in condensed form, condensed light and condensed sounds. Indeed, because light is not separate from sound, but we have to pay attention to hear it and we must not have our thoughts elsewhere. To people who have practised hearing it, light speaks, it sings, it is music, it is the divine Word. In today's noisy world we can hear nothing and that is a great shame. To understand the language of food, we must begin by being silent.
