The higher part of our organism is predestined for noble …

The higher part of our organism is predestined for noble activities –seeing, hearing, breathing, thinking and speaking – whereas the lower part digests and eliminates, functions we consider more mundane. But all of these activities, some noble and others mundane, take place in the same individual, and if he attempts to reject the second category on the pretext that they are neither spiritual nor aesthetic, he will die. We cannot separate the higher from the lower. The higher faculties draw their energy from the lower functions, which are like the roots of a tree. Thanks to them, man is able to extract elements which he then transforms and distributes in the form of leaves, flowers and fruits, or in other words as thoughts, feelings and actions.
