To achieve material success, to taste all possible …

To achieve material success, to taste all possible pleasures and satisfy their ambitions: this is what is most important to the majority of humans. They do not realize that with aspirations like these they sink into darkness and limitation, and when one day they find themselves bound hand and foot, helpless and sick, they are amazed. They didn’t know, or didn’t want to know, that to feel free, happy and at peace they needed to sift through their thoughts, feelings and desires and choose only the best and most disinterested ones. Every day you eat, and to make your food fit for consumption you remove the skin, pips, stone or bones, etc., depending on what you are eating. You must also learn to make this sort of selection with those other forms of nourishment – your thoughts, feelings and wishes – so you can eliminate all elements of selfishness, aggressiveness and unfairness from them. That’s the most important thing: not to make one’s wishes come true at all cost but to find which ones are worth realizing.
