You believe you know what water and fire are, but you will only truly know them once you are capable of seeing them in their cosmic dimension as the two principles of creation. Their activity is symbolized by the cross. The horizontal line represents the movement of the feminine principle, water, which always tends to spread out and spill over the surface of the ground, taking up as much space as possible. The vertical line represents the activity of the masculine principle, fire, which, on the contrary, tends to concentrate its energies and soar towards the heights. Water is therefore linked to the surface and fire to the heights. These two directions, the horizontal and the vertical, brought together in the figure of the cross, best represent the activity of the masculine and feminine principles within creation and all creatures. This symbol abounds in the universe.
