‘By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken.’ These are the words in Genesis that God addresses to Adam after the fall. But now a new light is entering the world to return meaning to all human activity, and that light conveys a different understanding of the word ‘work’. Whether your pursuits are intellectual, artistic or physical, or even if you’re just resting or going for a walk, you should avoid anything that might resemble stagnation and create within yourself a state of ordered and harmonious activity. True work consists in bringing all inner and outer currents and energies into harmony, so they converge towards the Source of life, the prime Cause. The disciple must see ‘work’ solely from this point of view.
