Traditionally, a magus is represented with a wand in his right hand. The function of this wand is to establish contact between what is above and what is below, between the psychic world and the physical world, so that an idea, a desire or an image can be expressed and realized in matter. When Jesus says in the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’, he is performing an act of magic, since through his words he creates a connection between the higher and lower worlds. He is also asking all human beings to fulfil a magic function: to attract the purity, light and harmony of the celestial world, so that the earth becomes a reflection of heaven. The only way we can realize this ideal is to maintain contact with heaven, unceasingly and with all our being, so that we keep the current circulating. The magic wand is therefore like an electric plug which each of us must connect to heaven if we are to act in harmony with the divine laws of goodness and justice.
