Attraction and repulsion - they are never reliable guides

Attraction and repulsion are normal instinctive reactions. We like or dislike certain foods, drinks and activities. We like or dislike certain kinds of people. This is normal. We all come into the world with inclinations and tastes that tend to lead us in one direction or another. Yes, but if the Creator has also given us powers of reason and judgement, it is so that we may use them and not let ourselves be led blindly by our likes or dislikes. For our sympathies and antipathies, our attractions and repulsions are never reliable guides. So, we must all study our likes and dislikes and see whether, by following them, we are helping or hindering our spiritual evolution. It is not a question of going against all our natural tendencies, for some of them are very good. It is a question of examining them, so as to give free rein to the good ones and redirect those that would lead us into difficult situations.*
