Christians recite and sing about how they place all their faith and hope in the Lord, in Christ, in the angels. But why, then, are many of them continually weak, wavering and unhappy? Because they make do with reciting and singing and do nothing to attract help from heaven. If gardeners sow nothing in their garden, they can call on the Lord for help all they like, or on the sun, the rain and all the forces of nature, but nothing will grow. The Lord has created laws, which humans must know, and if they do not know them or do not want to apply them, the Lord is not going to make other laws just to please them. But if they sow a few seeds – wise thoughts and loving feelings – in their inner earth, then all the cosmic laws will contribute to their growth. We must count first on our work and then on the Lord, that is, on the laws he established at the beginning of the world.
