The spiritual life is an intense one, and there may come a moment, after doing exercises in concentration and meditation, when you feel as if you’re about to explode. It’s true, your nervous system may not be able to resist certain stresses, so you must learn to allow the vibrations to increase progressively and gradually as you work. The human organism, the brain in particular, is capable of resisting extreme tension, but only if this tension does not occur abruptly. It’s like an engine that has to be allowed to warm up slowly so the whole thing doesn’t explode. When you sense your brain is struggling to cope with too much psychic or spiritual activity, why not do some physical work, or even just walk about, so that some of this energy gets sent to your arms and legs? Your balance will be restored, if you are able to direct the energy elsewhere for a while.
