Learn to appreciate a truth for itself without worrying …

Learn to appreciate a truth for itself without worrying about the social position of those speaking to you or the letters after their name. For each truth is valid in itself, and it remains valid irrespective of whose mouth it comes from, just as a gold coin remains gold no matter whose pocket it is found in. Of course, a gold coin received from a king’s hand has special value for you, for your vanity is flattered. Even though it doesn’t contain a milligram more gold, you can say, ‘The king gave it to me!’ And you may even be able to sell it for more, since items and furniture that have belonged to people of renown get sold for a higher price. But that’s just snobbery. A truth, whether it is scientific, philosophical or spiritual, has its own value. If you are evolved enough not to limit your attention to form, you will be as attentive to the truth that’s told you by someone unknown as by someone famous.
