Whether our feelings are positive (like joy, love and enthusiasm) or negative (like anxiety, hate and jealousy), we experience them not in our brain or our physical heart but in our solar plexus. So, when initiates sited what we commonly call ‘the heart’ in the solar plexus, they showed they had a better understanding of what anatomy and physiology truly are. And the same is true when they spoke of ‘the intelligence of the heart’. Our intellect, the brain’s intelligence, doesn’t really know how our organism functions, with all its chemical, physical processes: respiration, circulation, digestion, elimination and so on, and the reason it doesn’t know is because it doesn’t feel these things. These phenomena are extraordinarily important and complex, but only the solar plexus is aware of them, for it is the solar plexus they depend on. The solar plexus is at the heart of the human being, just as the sun is at the heart of the universe.
