It is desirable for everyone to be free, yes, but not in …

It is desirable for everyone to be free, yes, but not in any way whatsoever. Many people do everything possible to escape their obligations and to cut their ties, and then they think they are free! No, true freedom comes when you begin to pay off all your debts, in other words, to honour your commitments, not when you rid yourself of your wife, your children, your boss, your society or even your life! This is like someone who eats well in a restaurant and decides to leave without paying. It is dishonest, and the luminous spirits who watch over us do not tolerate such an attitude. Those who want to free themselves in this way will inevitably have to endure new fetters, new servitude in order to learn that they are mistaken: this is called ‘jumping out of the frying pan into the fire’. To the extent that we have not paid all our debts, freedom is not possible. Nothing is more precious than freedom, but only if we seek it according to divine law.
