It is rare that both people in a couple are able to walk at exactly the same pace, and to balance the situation the one who walks faster must show patience and kindness. Let him temper somewhat his strong desire to progress, so that he doesn’t lose his companion along the way. He must not forget his partner who trots along behind him. And it is pointless for him to criticize his partner: he should have considered this person’s possibilities before becoming attached, and if he was not satisfied, he should not have committed himself. Now it is too late. You have the right to advance freely only when you have demonstrated kindness and patience, and when you have made sacrifices so that your partner could follow, but he has taken no notice. In this case, you are not required to slow your pace in order to please someone who refuses to make an effort. But if he is making an effort, you have no right to abandon him along the way. This is forbidden by divine law.
