Through meditation and prayer we learn to communicate with the higher regions and project the subtlest part of our soul towards heaven, so that on its return it may bring us new, more spiritual elements we did not possess before. And then, instead of eternally repeating the same faults, the same erroneous behaviour or the same mediocrity, we will succeed in surpassing ourselves. If animals evolve very little, it is because they are deprived of this projective faculty that humans possess. For thousands of years, they have been reproducing identical copies of themselves, and if they evolve at all it is thanks to their contact with humans. Whereas human beings, through the power they have to project themselves into divine regions, attract purer, more luminous elements to themselves, and in this way they manage to surpass themselves, to recreate themselves and accomplish tremendous works. That is what we call evolution.
