Every time we win over temptation put before us by our …

Every time we win over temptation put before us by our lower nature, we acquire new strength. What is difficult of course is to maintain this state of grace. As long as we live on earth we cannot remain for long on the heights we have managed to reach. We must continue to struggle, over and over, to conquer them again. When we leave the physical world for the spiritual world we will not need to struggle any more, because we will no longer be exposed to temptation. But as long as we remain on earth we must work up to the very last minute. It is the same when it comes to eating and breathing. We ate yesterday but we must also eat today and we will have to eat again tomorrow. We have just taken an in-breath and we must at once do the same again. One experience has led us to understand the meaning of life, but if we do not want to lose this meaning we must have another experience, and another, and another. We have won over temptation? We will be tempted again, and once again we will have to try to gain the upper hand.
