When Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world’, he was …

When Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world’, he was identifying with the sun. Who is the light of the world, in effect, if it isn’t the sun? The sun is the visible, dazzling image of the Divinity. When you identify with light it means you recognize you are not just your physical appearance but you possess another nature. You know you are made of a spiritual quintessence, and you decide to let it take your place. For Jesus to have been able to say, ‘I am the light of the world’ and to have found this light within himself and risen to its level, he must have succeeded in identifying with the spiritual sun: the Christ. And that is true love, the irresistible force which impels humans to seek what is most pure and most divine within themselves and, once they have found it, to become one with its reality. Yes, love is attraction; it arises from the spark God has placed within the soul of human beings, because of which they experience the need to find him again and become one with him.
