You must expect only truths from a spiritual teaching, truths that will produce a change in your consciousness. At first the change will be minuscule, but heaven and earth are contained within it. Remember what Jesus said about the mustard seed: ‘It is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.’ It is not, therefore, the size of the seed that counts, but its vigour. We can interpret the mustard seed as a seemingly imperceptible thought or feeling, but one that will produce immense results if it is intense and is given the right conditions. ‘The birds of the air come and make nests in its branches,’ said Jesus. These birds are the spirits of the invisible world. They come to visit and even to nest in those beings who have embraced the spiritual life. With the presence of such spirits, who would not feel overjoyed?
