Because human beings do not know how to regard one another, …

Because human beings do not know how to regard one another, they are inclined to see only the crudest and coarsest physical or psychic traits in each other. So many people take delight in caricaturing their fellow humans, either verbally or in their writings, drawings or performances, enchanting the public, who laugh and applaud. I agree that from time to time we can tease a little, in a kindly way, but people do not do it just occasionally, or a little, or kindly. Their need to portray humans as uglier, more stupid and more ridiculous than they really are is a pernicious habit. What right do they have to debase the image of God? Is this any way to treat their brothers and sisters? Why don’t they realize that they are connected to them, and that by degrading them they degrade something in themselves as well?
