Daily Meditation: Monday, September 1, 2008

From time to time, you are sorely tempted to tell yourself, …

From time to time, you are sorely tempted to tell yourself, ‘That’s it! I’ve had enough of going to sunrises, doing the gymnastics and the breathing exercises, meditating, praying, watching what I think, watching what I feel and say. All this effort is exhausting; I need a rest.’ Of course, it’s normal to have this sort of reaction. But when such thoughts come to you, do not open your soul to them. If you feel too tense, don’t make the same demands on yourself every day, but you must never entertain the idea that you don’t need to make any effort. It’s effort that keeps you awake and alive. If you let yourself go for a moment, you will perhaps think that you are freer and more detached, but that won’t last. You will very quickly feel heavy and stuck inside. So, beware!
