Words - intermediaries between pure thought and physical realization

‘Let there be light!’ According to the account in the Book of Genesis, the creation of the world began when God uttered these words. Of course, the ‘word’ of God, which has nothing in common with what we think of as words, is but a way of expressing the idea that in creating, God projected something of himself. To say that God ‘spoke’ means that he willed to manifest himself. You find this very difficult to understand... It might help to take an example from everyday life. When you have an idea, where is it located? Can we see it or find it in a particular part of your brain? No. We also have to admit that we do not even know what it is made of. However, as soon as you express that idea in words, its existence can already begin to be perceived. And when you finally act upon it, it is embodied in matter and becomes visible. Words, speech, are the intermediaries between the realm of pure thought and that of physical realization.*
