Weaknesses - enrol in the school of strength instead

Someone comes to see me and complains that nothing is going right for him, that he is discouraged, disappointed, and so forth. I look at him and simply tell him, ‘That is because you have enrolled in the school of weakness.’ ‘What school is that?’* Seeing that he does not understand, I explain: ‘Well, in the school of weakness, you never do any exercises to build up your strength and learn to face up to difficulties. You loaf about in armchairs, in comfort and idleness. This is all very nice, but what happens then? The result is that your inner mechanism slows down, the intensity of your life, your thoughts and your spirit gradually diminishes, and when problems and trials arise, you immediately break down. It is now time to enrol in the school of strength; that is to say, you must strive to maintain an inner state of activity, vigilance, dynamic energy, enthusiasm and courage. Knowing that the two great principles of life and death are locked in an eternal struggle, you must not give in; you must not allow negative forces to invade you and shackle you.’
