Truths of life - show proof that you have understood them
So many people spend their time criticizing, complaining, and talking about how unhappy and discouraged they are for this or that reason—or for no reason at all!* To be in such a state means that they have no understanding of the truths of life. ‘What do you mean?’ they exclaim in indignation. ‘We understand life very well, we have all kinds of degrees, and have read many books by great philosophers and thinkers!’ Yes, but their attitude demonstrates that they have not understood a thing. To have a degree, to have read whole libraries certainly shows that they are literate and erudite; but it does not prove that they have understood anything about life. Serenity, self-mastery, patience with others, and the ability to resolve problems are proof of your understanding. Even if you have no degree and have never read a book in your life, if you can give such proof, you are a wonderful being. Nothing could be clearer!
