Tolerating others - a learning process

Who among you doesn’t know someone, even a family member, whom you find hard to bear? But rather than complaining and remonstrating, you should consider those unbearable people as so many opportunities to make an effort and learn to love. Yes, it is a learning process. One day, when you leave this earth and present yourself before the heavenly entities, they will ask you to account for yourself, ‘Why didn’t you have more love for your fellow beings?’ And don’t think you can justify yourself by saying they were unpleasant or unlovable, for the entities will say, ‘That’s no excuse, heaven has given you great riches; you were given arms and legs, ears, a mouth, eyes, and above all a brain. But instead of using it to make yourself useful to others, you merely criticized them and showed contempt for them.’ ‘But they were so pitiful.’ ‘Well precisely, that was all the more reason to show more generosity towards them!’ Nothing you say will justify your behaviour.
