Temperament - must never be used to justify one’s weaknesses

Some people, believing this is enough to excuse their weaknesses, say, 'That's how it is, I can't help it, I'm made like that!' Well, that is a purely biological argument and is not at all convincing. We are all 'made like that'! But we all also possess an intelligence, which is there to put our biological nature right and which has enabled humanity to raise itself above the animal. Remove a human being's intelligence, and they will fall back once more into bestiality. It is intelligence, the spiritual principle, which cultivates, improves and perfects all things. If you discard it and say, 'I can't do anything, that's how I am,' you will never succeed in making the slightest progress. You must not reason like that. Whatever your temperament or constitution, do not use it as a reason for giving in. On the contrary, look for the element within yourself that is able to improve and perfect everything. Take it as your guide, depend on it and work with it.
