Renunciation - transposing an activity onto a higher plane

Renunciation must never be a privation but a transposition, a translation to a higher plane. You continue the same activity but with purer, more luminous materials. You give up, for example, tasting a pleasure on the physical plane to taste it on the spiritual plane, where it is of a higher quality. So, instead of spending entire afternoons stretched out on the beach, lying in a stupor in the sun wasting your time, you go in the morning to watch the sunrise, and gradually you feel your mind become more lucid and insightful. It doesn't mean you stop exposing yourself to the sun but that you know where, when and how to do so, in order to really benefit from it. There are so many other activities you can transpose this to! It's up to you to look into them and see how you can move them onto a higher plane.
