Pray to God without asking for anything, simply to feel closer to Him - Most people think that praying to God means asking Him for everything they lack

Most people think that praying to God means asking Him for everything they lack. They need clothes, food and a roof over their heads; they want to be safe from illness and danger; they want a husband, a wife, children, and so on. And they ask God to provide them with all of these things. I understand, this is only natural, but who, before praying, tells themself that they will not ask for anything; that they will pray simply to feel closer to the Lord? Those who understand the true nature and purpose of prayer do not ask for anything, because they know that even though they ask for nothing, they will receive everything. God is might, wisdom, love, purity and beauty, and those who meld with Him through prayer gradually acquire all of His virtues, all of his riches. This being so, how can you doubt that you will one day obtain all that your heart most desires?*
