Likes and Dislikes - the importance of reasoning

Analyze yourself and you will notice that whenever you form a relationship or an association of some sort, you are guided by your instinctive likes or dislikes rather than by your reasoning. Good sense comes later, when things start to go wrong or you feel let down. But by then it is too late. When a man and a woman decide to become a couple, what is it that motivates them? Sympathy and attraction. It is only later, when they realize they were mistaken about each other, that they start to use their reason. And the same goes for dislikes. If you do not like someone, you avoid them or set yourself against them. Then one day, you discover quite by chance that this person for whom you had such antipathy is actually far more honest, reliable and brave than the person you liked so much originally. So, be careful, do not rely too much on your likes and dislikes. Let reason have its say from the very beginning.*
