It is in the extreme heat of the equatorial forests that most wild beasts are found. In the same way, people who frequent their own equatorial regions (the stomach and sexual organs) nourish passions (wild beasts) which will eventually ravage them. You must avoid awakening or feeding the fires of passion, whether within yourself or in others. This is why a spiritual master does not allow his disciples to remain in the heat, but exposes them to the cold, which is to say, to wisdom. When someone is rich, powerful and famous and lives in the heat where there is an abundance of everything, his wild beasts awaken. If he does not know how to tame them, he gives himself over to a life of debauchery and the satisfaction of his ambitions at the expense of others, and gradually he descends into hell. This being the case, it is better for those who are weak not to have too many material advantages, because then they will have fewer problems mastering their inner beasts.
