Identification - the only means to truly possess something

Materially, physically, it is possible for your belongings to be taken from you. With regard to the inner life, however, you can only lose something that does not belong to you, something that is not yet part of you. It is impossible to lose what you truly possess. If people say, ‘I had faith but now I’ve lost it…’ or ‘I was in the light, and now I ‘m in darkness…’ or ‘I loved, but now love has abandoned me’, it means that neither faith, light nor love has ever truly belonged to them. Those who profoundly aspire to have faith, light and love must themselves become faith, light and love. Jesus said, ‘I am the light of the world.’ He did not say that the light was in him or with him, but that he was the light. He identified with the light. This formula contains an entire science, and you must meditate on it.
