‘I am the living bread’ - commentary

Never forget that there is a spirit dwelling in you, a spark that burst from the bosom of the Eternal, from the primordial fire, to be embodied in matter. This spark carries within it all the divine plans, and the only purpose of all its wanderings through matter is to bring these plans to fruition. But in order to survive it needs food. One of the symbols of food, both physical and spiritual, is bread. Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life…’, ‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven’. And on the evening of the Last Supper, he blessed the bread to give to his disciples, saying, ‘Eat, this is my body.’ So bread represents the elements of the divine life. When we come to the earth, we already possess some of these elements. Those who wasted them in their previous incarnations by not living moderately must try to recover them; otherwise, they will continue their journey amid great difficulties. In an initiatic school, we are simply filling our inner sacks and granaries, that is to say, our mind, heart, soul and spirit, with this living bread that has come down from heaven.
