Each sign of the zodiac represents a stage in the slow transformation of nature throughout the year. The sun enters Aries at the beginning of spring, when life forces are in flood and buds are bursting open. This surge continues in Taurus and Gemini, as leaves and then flowers appear. With the constellation of Cancer comes summer, and seeds begin to form; with Leo fruit ripens, and when Virgo comes and the fruit is ripe, it is time for the harvest. After that comes autumn with the constellations of Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius: the last fruits are gathered, leaves fall, and the vegetation dies and decomposes. Finally, winter appears in the signs of Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces: seeds sink into the ground where they die and are assimilated by the soil – but it is from this death that new seeds will be born, bringing a new resurgence, a new flowering.
