Concentration - advice on how to succeed with this exercise

Do you wish to meditate? Begin by becoming peaceful. Do not try to concentrate before you have become peaceful within, or else you will give a shock to your braincells, and they will not do their job properly. Like everything else, the brain has a natural inertia, and you cannot immediately impart to it the movement you wish. Always bear in mind that the cells of your body, and therefore of your brain, are living creatures you must not force or upset. Once you feel relaxed and quiet, you can begin to engage your cells in the direction you have chosen. But, again, you have to learn how to proceed. When you start up the engine of your car, you do not immediately push it up to 60 miles an hour and over. Well, with your brain you must also work up in stages, until you feel that mentally you have the situation well enough under control to concentrate on your chosen subject. You will then feel all your cells are collaborating in your work. You have orientated them so well that your mind naturally continues in the same direction.
