We consider the functions of the brain and heart to be …

We consider the functions of the brain and heart to be noble, while those of the abdomen, for example, seem more mundane. And yet it is in this part of the body that we are created and formed. Not only does the mother carry her baby here, but it is here that the baby draws its forces and nourishment through the umbilical cord. The Russians call this region of the abdomen ‘jivot’, and ‘jivot’ in Bulgarian means ‘life’. Yes, it is in this region that life has its source, and from there it develops and is distributed to the other organs of the body. Even the brain depends on this centre from which it receives its life. It is the same for the tree: the most important part of a tree is its roots, which are hidden underground, dark and twisted. Our roots are also dark and twisted, but if we learn to explore them, we will discover a world extraordinarily rich in matter and energy.
