Spoken word - must become the expression of the divine Word

All creatures have a language, but only human beings possess the spoken word, and in order for this word to become truly rich and meaningful, it must come to express the divine Word. If this is your ideal, the first requirement for achieving it is to decide that you will no longer allow yourself to gossip, slander or even speak impulsively. Learn to control your tongue and say to yourself: ‘If I don’t watch what I say, I will never possess the real power of the Word. I must pay attention.’ What is not said in the course of a day! We casually throw out words, with the idea that if we are mistaken or go too far, it will only take a few more words to make amends. This is not the case; we do not know the path that a word takes, the regions it crosses, or the damage it can cause if it is a false or harmful. And do not imagine that by merely apologizing or paying ‘damages with interest’ you will right the wrong caused by your words. It may be rectified in the eyes of human beings, perhaps, but not in the eyes of cosmic law.
