Exchanges - between human beings and the universe via the four elements
Life is nothing other than an uninterrupted exchange between human beings and the universe. Cosmic life enters into us, we imbue it with our own emanations, and then send it back. Once again, we absorb this life and, again, we send it back. These continuous exchanges between human beings and the universe are known as nutrition, as respiration, and also as love. If we do not make these exchanges we die. In order to live on the physical plane, we must make exchanges with the earth. To live on the astral plane—the heart—we must make exchanges with water. To live on the mental plane—the intellect—we must make exchanges with air. To live in the soul and spirit, we must make exchanges with heat and light. The physical body needs food to stay alive, but the heart, the intellect, the soul and the spirit also need nourishment. Due to ignorance of this truth, human beings have lost the whole meaning of life.
