The work of spiritual transformation must not be limited to …

The work of spiritual transformation must not be limited to the realm of thoughts and feelings; it must also touch the physical body. When initiates achieve this they are said to be transfigured. Jesus experienced such a transfiguration on Mount Tabor. ‘Six days later,’ the Gospels tell us, ‘Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.’ This is how Jesus revealed to his disciples how the physical body can also become light through the power of the spirit, the power of love. It was the greatest revelation he could make to his chosen disciples. At this particularly solemn moment, the presence of Moses and Elijah was very significant, for Moses represented the Law that Jesus had just brought to perfection and fulfilled. As for Elijah, he had announced the coming of the Messiah and had reincarnated in the person of John the Baptist in order to prepare for his coming.
