Cosmic Intelligence has endowed human beings with subtle centres which enable them to communicate with the realms of the spirit. These centres are, in the world of the soul and spirit, the equivalent of our physical sense organs, and we must first work to become conscious of them and at the same time adopt rules of conduct that enable us to develop them. All these practices, all these rules given to us by the initiates - which we call moral standards - must be respected by us. And why must we respect them? Contrary to what some people may believe, it is not a question of submitting to human conventions, or of pleasing a God who lives somewhere above the clouds. The true reason is that every one of our thoughts, feelings, and actions has repercussions in the depths of our being and helps either to enrich or to impoverish the life within us.
