Efforts - keep us alive and healthy

When there is nothing that requires them to make any effort, people tend to let themselves go. They need difficulties, hardships, and then they pull themselves together and mobilize their energies to remedy the situation. When they have managed to do this, they relax and fall back into being neglectful and lazy. It is not good to suit your behaviour to the changes in the external world. Whatever the circumstances, you must continue to make efforts, for that is what will keep you alive and healthy. If conditions improve and the difficulties are smoothed out, so much the better, but that is no reason to stop making any physical, emotional or intellectual effort. That is the rule for those who are truly spiritual. Spiritual practice is based on very simple methods, but applying them requires great perseverance. To acquire light, peace, love and strength, we are required to make fresh efforts every day: there are thoughts to be nurtured, words to be said, gestures to be made. And then mother nature herself will say, ‘I recognize these thoughts, these words and these gestures; they vibrate in harmony with what is most beautiful and luminous in me. Here, I give you my blessings.’
